Abstract
La politique québécoise de la vieillesse présente des modalités assez inédites puisqu’il appert que les différents modes de gestion induits par la technocratie étatique se sont traduits par une variation sémantique importante de la notion d’autonomie. D’autre part, il est plus juste actuellement d’analyser la pratique de certains groupes de personnes âgées comme émancipatoire par rapport au modèle culturel qui a cours actuellement relativement à la vieillesse, que d’y voir une volonté d’autocontrôlé face aux modes de gestion technocratique. Enfin, le déplacement du champ sémantique a des conséquences largement différenciées selon la classe sociale et le sexe; elle a également des implications sociales importantes puisque l’autonomie n’est pas l’indépendance et encore moins l’indépendance physique.
