Abstract

Almost forty percent of U.S. generated energy is consumed in residential and commercial buildings. It is crucial to explore techniques that efficiently utilize power consumption to avoid losses through smart electricity decisions that utilize intelligent power management. In this paper, we used MIT's publicly available residential energy profile dataset (REDD) for analyzing trends and patterns of general household consumers. The main observation of the profile analytics is that the circuit-level energy consumption profile can provide device-level power consumption prediction for different household appliances. The inferred insights from different households' energy consumption behavior could help informed decision making and hence provide a basic guideline towards a smarter community.
