Abstract
Partir d’un bon pas pour un avenir meilleur est un programme de prévention des problèmes affectifs et comportementaux destiné aux enfants de moins de huit ans vivant dans des communautés ontariennes socioéconomiquement défavorisées. Une équipe de chercheurs évalue depuis 1991 l’impact des programmes du projet sur les enfants, les familles et la communauté. Cet article présente les résultats de l’étude huit ans après le début du projet. Après les quatre premières années, les chercheurs ont observé une augmentation des comportements prosociaux, une amélioration de la santé des enfants, une diminution des problèmes comportementaux et une diminution du nombre d’enfants en difficulté. Quatre ans plus tard, la diminution des comportements liés à l’hyperactivité et à la diminution du nombre d’enfants en difficulté se sont maintenues. Cependant, le programme n’a pas eu d’effets sur le développement cognitif des élèves.
