日本の自閉症スペクトラム障害(ASD)児が、Du Bois(1987)の「好みの項構造」の談話・語用論的制約に対する感受性を有するか否かを検討した。言語発達段階で統制したASD児と定型発達(TD)児各2名における動詞の項の省略と語彙化、および非言語情報に関して分析を行った。その結果、「好みの項構造」の制約と一致した言語パターンがみられ、ASD児が言語においては、情報を提供する構造や談話の語用論的な制約に対する感受性をTD児と同様に有するということが示唆された。このことは、「普通の会話」や「一見正しく見える伝達行動」(大井, 2002)と見なされ、ASD児のコミュニケーションの問題を過小評価してしまう危険性もある。代名詞化に際しては、ASD児は非言語情報をTD児に比べて有意に少なく使用しており、非言語情報を対象特定のために有効に活用しないことが示唆された。ASD児のコミュニケーション能力の発達への支援を考えるうえでは、非言語情報の処理に関するさらなる検討が必要である。
