Abstract
黒ボク土層はテフラ物質を主体とした無機質素材を母材として，湿潤かつ冷温・温暖な気候と草原的植生下で生成してきた土壌である．酸素同位体ステージ（MIS）3以降の黒ボク土層の生成史には人為生態系の観点から2つの画期が認められる．最初の画期（黒ボク土層画期I）はMIS 3後半，後期旧石器時代初頭における“突発的な遺跡の増加期”に連動し，後の画期（黒ボク土層画期II）はMIS1初頭の急激な湿潤温暖化により人類活動が活性化した縄文時代の始まりと連動する．いずれの画期も草原的植生の出現拡大にヒトが深く関わったと考えられるので，黒ボク土層は人為生態系のもとで分布を拡大してきたといえる．
