Abstract
En se penchant sur le projet de réforme du programme d’aide sociale au Québec, soumis en 1988, cet article fait intervenir le thème de la solitude dans l’explication de la dépendance des mères solitaires bénéficiaires de ce programme. Derrière les problèmes liés au manque de ressources et au retrait du marché du travail se profilent des dimensions qui complexifient la tâche de prise en charge de l’État. Le déroulement de la vie affective des individus et les différentes figures emblématiques de la solitude induisent de nouvelles formes de risque. La solitude du groupe étudié représente un amalgame de solitude imposée et de solitude choisie qui pose divers dilemmes à la société quant aux orientations à développer en matière de solidarité sociale.
