Abstract
L’analyse de la bibliographie publiée sur Anish Kapoor fait apparaître une lecture principalement eurocentriste de l’œuvre de cet artiste rattaché par la critique (essentiellement occidentale) à l’expressionisme abstrait, au minimalisme et à la Nouvelle sculpture anglaise. Son interprétation fait appel aux concepts du sublime, du néant, de l’angoisse psychanalytique face à « l’étrange ». À partir de 1998, il choisit comme interprète privilégié de son travail, l’universitaire indien Homi Bhabha, théoricien majeur du post-colonialisme. Dans la lecture souvent poétique et métaphorique de l’œuvre développée par Bhabha on trouve les marqueurs de sa pensée exprimée notamment dans son ouvrage majeur The Location of Culture (Routledge, 1994). Cette contribution analyse cette interprétation de Kapoor à la lumière de ce texte et vise à mettre en évidence les concepts de la pensée subalterne dans l’analyse de Bhabha.
