Abstract
La notion d’intervention est de plus en plus utilisée pour qualifier la pratique des professionnels. Que signifie-t-elle aujourd’hui ? Pour répondre à cette question, l’auteur examine d’abord les significations que revêtent le verbe « intervenir » et ses dérivés dans trois univers : celui de l’économie politique et de la « question sociale », celui des sciences et de la « question naturelle », et celui des arts libéraux et des pratiques professionnelles. Il montre ensuite que la notion d’intervention s’insère dans un réseau conceptuel de base plus large qui, circulant indistinctement d’un univers à l’autre, soutient l’émergence d’une nouvelle forme d’action publique appelée ici « interventionnisme généralisé ». L’intervention aujourd’hui aurait pour effet de légitimer toute action conduite au seul titre d’une citoyenneté « réaliste et responsable » et exécutée selon les formes procédurales que prescrit « la » science de l’action efficace.
