Introducao: A superfamilia Metastrongyloidea e composta por parasitos que infectam os sistemas respiratorio, cardiovascular e nervoso de mamiferos (Koch & Willesen 2007). Estes metastrongilideos sao esporadicamente isolados de cachorros do mato (Cerdocyon thous) (Vieira et al. 2008) e pinipedes (Jacobus et al. 2016), porem as informa- coes sobre as alteracoes morfologicas causadas por estes parasitos em sarues (Didelphis albiventris) sao escassas no Brasil. O Didelphostrongylus hayesi foi relatado como um parasita pulmonar em Didelphis virginiana nos Estados Unidos, sendo um dos principais metastrongilideos desta especie, causando broncopneumonia granulomatosa (Duncan et al. 1989, Lamberski et al. 2002, Jones 2013). No Canada, estes parasitos foram descritos em um coiote (Canis latrans) associados a ocorrencia de trombose arterial pulmonar e arterite proliferativa associada a inϐiltrado de macrofagos, eosinoϐilos e celulas gigantes multinucleadas tipo corpo-estranho, alem de ϐibrose intersticial pulmonar (Bourque et al. 2005). O objetivo do presente trabalho e avaliar os aspectos anatomopatologicos da infeccao pulmonar em sarues por Didelphostrongylus hayesi, a ϐim de caracterizar lesoes semelhantes nas especies silvestres, cujos relatos sao escassos e necessitam de mais elucidacoes.
