Abstract
Le « récit » de la fin de la vie d’une personne âgée résidant dans un centre d’accueil public au Québec est présenté pour illustrer la dynamique entre les acteurs et les critères utilisés lors de la prise de décisions concernant les traitements et les soins qui lui sont offerts. Ces résultats préliminaires, obtenus par observation participante sur le terrain, constituent la première partie d’une recherche en cours. Ce récit peut être compris en plaçant les acteurs impliqués dans ces décisions dans trois constellations (constellation personnelle, constellation thérapeutique et constellation décisionnelle); en examinant les principaux critères de décisions (la qualité de vie antérieure, la condition actuelle et les volontés exprimées); et, enfin, en situant le récit dans le contexte de l’institution d’accueil et de ses politiques non écrites de traitements à la fin de la vie.
