Abstract
La forme générale qu’a prise le « développement » de l’humanité sous l’égide du capitalisme et des révolutions technologiques comporte elle aussi, d’ores et déjà, des conséquences irréversibles à très long terme, et l’avenir que nous pouvons entrevoir n’est pas tellement incertain qu’inquiétant. Cette inquiétude est évidemment renforcée par la dynamique qui s’impose à travers la globalisation néolibérale dont les conséquences les plus massives sont très prévisibles, à moins d’un renversement radical du mouvement et donc des impulsions qui le produisent. Ainsi, le choix qu’exige le très long terme s’impose-t-il désormais à nous en état d’urgence. Il y a là un paradoxe que ni la pensée spéculative, ni la praxis engagée ne peuvent surmonter sans être saisies par le dilemme de la légèreté cynique ou de l’accablement fataliste : n’est-il pas déjà trop tard pour rêver au bien commun, pour espérer un avenir meilleur plutôt que de seulement s’attendre au pire ?
