Abstract
Quelques formes contemporaines de pratiques avant la mort sont analysées à la faveur d’un aperçu de l’histoire de la modélisation de la mort : quels rapports sociaux orientent les rapports vie-mort ? Comment ces derniers déterminent-ils les pratiques et les représentations successives et sédimentées d’une « bonne » mort et sont-ils illustrés par elles ? Quels acteurs jouent le rôle de définisseurs de cette bonne mort ? Quels sont la portée et les enjeux du mouvement d’intérêt à l’endroit du mourir, de la création d’unités de soins palliatifs, du testament de vie ? Comment agissent actuellement les premiers concernés ? De la bonne à la belle, puis de la dépossédée à la discourue, la « préparation » à la mort prend des formes qui se déplacent de l’événement de la mort comme telle à la présence de la maladie, voire au parcours de toute une vie. Le rite alors mis en place signale un nouveau rapport au temps, aux réseaux sociaux et à l’institution bio-médico-hospitalière, tout en s’axant sur de grands universaux.
