Stories of Transition: An Empirical Study of Trans-Identified Teachers in K-12 Schools
Bibliographic record
Abstract
This empirical study utilizes multi-perspective theory, which includes queer, feminist, and transgender theoretical perspectives to analyze the lived experiences of three male-to-female trans-identified teachers who transitioned genders, during three different decades (1980s, 1990s, 2000s), within their K-12 Canadian public schools. Through the creation of poststructural storylines, I investigate lived narratives of personal risk, professional resilience, and political resistance as these trans teachers call into question the universality of the categories of what it means to be a “man” or “woman,” and in doing so bring forth new analyses to explore questions of gender relations, power, and inequality within K-12 public schools. Ultimately, this research asks whose lives are deemed to be intelligible and livable and, in doing so, interrogates how dominant understandings of gender, pedagogy, and teacher identity are constructed and actively resisted in an effort to demonstrate that all bodies and identities do matter in our schools (Butler, 2004).

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
