La ville fortifie de Louisbourg a eu une existence bien phmre: moins de cinquante ans.Sa vie et sa mort tiennent dans un demi-sicle, de 1713 1758 en vrit.Ce qu 'il y a de plus tragique, voire mme de dsesprant, dans l'histoire de Louisbourg et de sa forteresse, c'est que son sort a toujours t li des intrts europens.fcouisbourg est ne la suite d'un dsastre.Elle a t enfante dans le malheur.Commence en 1702, la guerre de Succession d'Espagne prendra fin le 11 avril 1713 par la signature du trait d'Utrecht.La France n'tait pas touche dans l'intgrit de son territoire national mais ses colonies recevaient un coup mortel.En plus de perdre les terres de l'immense bassin de la baie d'Hudson, elle devait dire adieu ses prtentions sur Terre-Neuve en plus d'y vacuer sa base de Plaisance.L'Acadie est dj possession anglaise.
