Abstract
Le roman soumis à l'analyse dans le présent article introduit le héros typiquement poulinien qui sert de véhicule pour la discussion sur la difficulté de l'être humain d'être au monde – un individu solitaire et réticent, maniaque et timide, délicat et presque misanthrope. Le bonheur et les différentes significations qu'il prend aux yeux des gens représentent dans ce contexte uniquement le point de départ de la discussion. L'article analyse le rôle des mots, la signification de la solitude, de la proximité, de la mémoire, du discours et de l'appartenance/héritage au sein d'un univers qui simule/s'efforce de recréer le Paradis, entre la force et la douceur. Pour le personnage, la communication avec ses pairs est une grande provocation, presqu'une mission impossible qui finit, apparemment, avec la mort. Si le roman avertit le lecteur que nul n'est une île, il est aussi vrai que les gens doivent négocier leurs notions afin de trouver une manière propre et viable d'être au monde.
