Abstract
Les changements climatiques semblent causer une modification graduelle des statistiques climatologiques et du cycle hydrologique pour plusieurs regions du monde. Les inquietudes se font grandissantes et generalisees puisque le rechauffement de l’atmosphere induit par l’augmentation de la concentration des gaz a effet de serre (GES) devrait s’accelerer au cours des cinquante prochaines annees. Ces constats et previsions sont bases sur un consensus scientifique bien exprime dans le rapport de 2001 du Groupe d’experts intergouvernemental sur l’evolution du climat (GIEC). Pourtant, plusieurs medias, intervenants politiques et economiques ainsi que quelques scientifiques soulevent toujours des doutes quant a l'evolution du climat et ses causes. Ce rapport reflete-il toujours les connaissances scientifiques acquises depuis ? Les changements en cours et anticipes seront-ils revus a la hausse ou a la baisse lors du prochain rapport prevu pour 2007 ? Est-il justifie d'atteindre les objectifs du protocole de Kyoto et de negocier de nouvelles reductions d'emissions de GES pour la periode post-Kyoto ? Et meme s'il y a changements climatiques, les modifications apprehendees sont-elles significatives ? L'ampleur des impacts justifie-t-elle des reductions et une adaptation a de nouvelles conditions ? L'avenir socio-economique et environnemental du Quebec est-il a risque a cause de ces changements et des moyens mis de l'avant pour les minimiser ? Nous tenterons de repondre a ces questions par un survol des connaissances actuelles en matiere de changements climatiques.
