Abstract
L’hospitalisation à domicile des malades souffrant du sida avéré révèle les capacités extrêmes des soins profanes (par opposition aux soins professionnels) que peuvent produire les malades et leurs proches. Ils tentent ainsi de repousser les limites économiques et médicales de ce mode de prise en charge afin de réduire leur recours à l’hospitalisation traditionnelle. Alors que la prise en charge profane, familiale et extra-familiale de la maladie préexistait il y a encore un demi-siècle à l’offre de services collectifs financés par l’assurance-maladie, elle est aujourd’hui réhabilitée. La structure hospitalière dans sa forme actuelle n’est en effet plus adaptée aux prises en charge de longue durée.
