Abstract
Des terroristes, de leurs motivations et de leurs intentions, nous ne connaissons le plus souvent rien, si ce n’est ce que la presse en expose et en communique. À la différence des travaux en sciences sociales sur ces objets, il apparaît que les médias proposent des portraits et une interprétation des motifs de la violence très sélective, fondée sur la majoration des facteurs psychologiques et la résorption de la violence politique dans la criminalité de droit commun. Pour mettre en évidence ces épistémologies communes du terrorisme, nous nous appuierons sur des cas d’espèce, en l’occurrence les portraits médiatiques de Jean-Marc Rouillan et des terroristes islamistes.
