Cet ouvrage rassemble près de deux cents images (gravures, lithographies, photographies, frontispices de livrets et de partitions, objets de décoration, etc.) représentant Marie Taglioni et les membres de sa famille. Ces images proviennent en grande partie de la collection de Debra et Madison Sowell, considérée aujourd’hui comme l’une des plus importantes collections privées d’estampes de danse dans le monde. Florilège iconographique, l’ouvrage comporte également plusieurs contributions académiques qui permettent de revisiter en profondeur l’historiographie taglionienne et de nuancer, voire de déconstruire, les mythes qui l’entourent depuis l’origine.
