Fora da America Latina a tomada de fabricas pelos trabalhadores e um fenomeno ainda raro hoje nos albores do seculo XXI.  Ela ocorre em paises desenvolvidos como o Canada e a Franca como tambem em paises perifericos como o Egito e a Servia como tatica de pressionar o capital por vantagens, mas geralmente sem a intencao de promover uma apropriacao duradoura. Este ultimo intuito, porem, ocorre na America Latina desde os anos 1980, pelo menos.  Trata-se de processos que acarretam inumeras dificuldades, como a inadequacao da legislacao e a relativa hostilidade da justica. E ocorrem geralmente devido a heranca de dividas patronais, de equipamentos semi-obsoletos e a dificuldades para a obtencao de credito.  Mas tambem se evidenciam vantagens como a melhoria das condicoes de trabalho, o fortalecimento da auto-estima dos trabalhadores e outras.  Pode-se, atualmente, especular sobre o possivel contagio do resto do mundo pelo fenomeno latino-americano das fabricas recuperadas, ja que a recessao encetada em 2008 dificilmente deixara alternativas de sobrevivencia aos trabalhadores que por ela serao vitimados. Abre-se, portanto, uma renovacao para as lutas sociais dos trabalhadores no interior das unidades produtivas e, por isso, vetor potencialmente importante para o horizonte para alem do capital.
