Abstract
Jalan raya Medan-Banda Aceh adalah jalan raya lintas sumatera yang berupa jalan dua lajur dua arah tak terbagi (2/2 UD) yang menghubungkan antar kota baik dalam provinsi dan diluar provinsi. Peningkatan volume lalu lintas harus di imbangi dengan peningkatan tingkat pelayanan jalan. Hasil volume lalu lintas harian rata-rata yang didapatkan selama 3 hari, untuk hari minggu 1240 smp/jam hari senin 1048 smp/jam dan hari jumat 1168 smp/jam. Volume puncak selama 3 hari terjadi pada sore hari pada pukul 17.00-18.00 WIB. Sebagian besar jenis kendaraan yang mendominasi pada Jalan Medan-Banda Aceh km 254+800 s.d 256+700 adalah kendaraan ringan (LV) dan sepeda motor (MC) yaitu volume totalnya 14206 smp/hari dan 13068,3 smp/hari sedangkan volume total kendaraan berat (HV) adalah 3844,4 smp/hari. Kecepatan rata- rata kendaraan setempat pada sore hari lebih lambat dari pagi hari karena volume lalu lintas puncak terjadi pada sore hari. Total kecepatan rata-rata hari minggu dan senin yaitu 44,19 km/jam dan 42,19 km/jam lebih besar dari kecepatan arus bebas menurut MKJI yaitu 40,49 km/jam yang berarti dalam segi ini masih dalam kategori aman. Kapasitas jalan sebesar 2802,38 smp/jam. Derajat kejenuhan yang diperoleh yaitu 0,36 < 0,75 masih berada dalam level aman (MKJI 1997) serta menunjukkan juga bahwa tingkat pelayanan jalan (Level of Service/LOS) yang diperoleh dalam kategori kelas B yaitu arus lalu lintas masih stabil tapi kecepatan mulai terbatas.Kata Kunci: volume lalu lintas, kecepatan rata-rata, derajat kejenuhan
