A CMOS pixel design that is capable of spatialtemporal exposure encoding is presented. By integrating selective charge storage units and exposure code memories in an active pixel sensor (APS) structure, the 10 μm×10 μm pixel design performs intermittent exposure according to the received binary exposure codes. Under a 625 nm illumination and with a 3.3 V supply, a 10×10 prototype image sensor fabricated in a 0.13-μm CMOS process demonstrates temporal, spatial, and spatialtemporal exposure encoding at 60 fps. The proposed pixel structure facilitates focal-plane space-time exposure encoding in CMOS image sensors for computational imaging applications.
