Abstract
Le Royaume Uni se compose de l’Angleterre, de l’Ecosse, du Pays de Galles et de l’Irlande du Nord. Il est clair que l’Angleterre domine le reste du Royaume uni, tant par sa puissance economique, culturelle, que par l’importance de sa population. Dans l’esprit de bien des Anglais, le Royaume Uni est effectivement l’Angleterre, les autres nations etant vues comme si elles constituaient des Comtes anglais. La plus grande et plus distincte de ces nations est l’Ecosse. L’on sait de Voltaire qu’on doit a l’Ecosse toutes nos idees sur la civilisation ! Une des consequences de la domination de l’Angleterre du fait que l’Angleterre est synonyme de Royaume Uni, est que trop souvent, les textes sur l’education comparee parlent du systeme d’education britannique [qui n’existe pas] en decrivant en fait le systeme anglais. Le Pays de Galle, l’Irlande du Nord et l’Ecosse ont tendance a etre purement et simplement ignores.
