Abstract The preservation of genome integrity is of ultimate importance for all organisms. That is why it is not surprising that many DNA-repair mechanisms are conserved across all three domains of life. At the same time, there are some substantial differences in nearly all mechanisms of DNA repair. Although a tremendous progress has been made in studying DNA-repair mechanisms, many questions remain unanswered, and answering them will require significant efforts in the future. This chapter indicates some differences in DNA repair among bacteria, archaea, and eukarya and discusses future research in genome stability.
