Dans cet article, l’auteur trace un portrait évolutif et comparatif de la situation des mères québécoises et ontariennes sur le marché du travail à partir d’indicateurs liés à la qualification des emplois, la surqualification et la rémunération. Il ressort de l’analyse que les mères au Québec apparaissent avoir une situation plus favorable que celles de l’Ontario en étant moins présentes dans l’emploi moins qualifié et en étant aussi moins touchées par le phénomène de la surqualification. De plus, les mères québécoises se retrouvent moins fréquemment à occuper des emplois faiblement rémunérés et sont souvent en meilleure posture que leurs homologues de l’Ontario lorsque la comparaison est faite avec les pères. Toutefois, l’enjeu de l’accès aux emplois les mieux rémunérés et celui lié au temps de travail demeurent présents dans les deux groupes comparés par rapport aux pères.
