Abstract
S’inspirant de l’anthropologie wébérienne, cet article développe l’hypothèse que l’humanité concrète et historique n’est pas uniformément constituée d’homines religiosi, c’est-à-dire d’hommes et de femmes religieux (au sens de la phénoménologie d’un Mircea Eliade, par exemple), mais d’individus inégalement doués au point de vue religieux. Selon les chiffres fournis par les nombreux recensements, enquêtes et sondages relatifs aux sociétés occidentales du vingtième siècle, l’humanité compte dans ses rangs 30 % de croyants prioritairement religieux, 40 % de croyants secondairement religieux, 20 % de croyants nominaux et 10 % d’incroyants.
