O sistema SBAS fornece aos seus usuarios, em tempo real, informacoes de acuracia e integridade, atraves das correcoes diferenciais que sao transmitidas pelos satelites geoestacionarios. Este sistema esta disponivel em regioes especificas do globo terrestre, dentre elas: Estados Unidos, Canada e Europa. No Brasil este sinal e transmitido na mesma frequencia L1 do sistema GPS, porem nao em tempo real, mas atraves de um protocolo chamado MT27 e alguns receptores possuem canais de frequencia especifica que captam estes sinais, com a promessa de que estes dados melhoram as condicoes do rastreio e a precisao das coordenadas. Utilizou-se a observavel fase da onda portadora (L1) para inferir sobre a sua contribuicao para o posicionamento. Os dados dos satelites SBAS foram processados e analisados conjuntamente (GPS+SBAS) e separadamente (apenas GPS); assim podem-se comparar as coordenadas e analisar a contribuicao que os dados SBAS produzem no posicionamento, em bases curtas (ate 10 km), utilizando-se de posicionamento relativo.
