Abstract
The chapter explores the relationship between transnational practices and immigrant settlement dynamics. Focusing on the Salvadoran refugee-migrant settlement experience in the cities of Los Angeles and Toronto, the chapter contributes to the comparative institutional study of immigration by analyzing the ways in which national- and city-level contextual factors (immigration and foreign policy, urban histories, etc.) and interactions between migrant and non-migrant organizations contour immigrant incorporation and patterns of trans-local engagement.
