Le but de ce travail de recherche est de développer et d’appliquer l’approche hydrogéomorphologique (HGM) à la plaine alluviale de la rivière Mitis. Ici, l’approche HGM est perçue comme une approche intégrée qui est construite à partir de plusieurs méthodes de manière à s’adapter le plus adéquatement possible aux conditions du milieu et parvenir à une cartographie juste des aléas d’inondation. L’élaboration de la démarche cartographique est basée sur l’historique de l’approche HGM au Québec. Ce mémoire par articles est découpé en quatre chapitres. Le chapitre 1 traite de la problématique en abordant dans un premier temps les origines et les fondements de l’approche HGM et l’histoire récente de la cartographie des zones inondables au Québec avant de dresser un portrait détaillé du site à l’étude. Le chapitre 2 est un article qui fait l’état de l’évolution de l’approche HGM au Québec depuis son émergence en 2007 jusqu’à son institutionnalisation. Le chapitre 3 correspond à la méthodologie employée pour cartographier les zones inondables de la plaine alluviale de la rivière Mitis. Enfin, le chapitre 4 est orienté sur une discussion mettant en avant la pertinence de l’approche HGM à son stade de développement le plus récent ainsi qu’une évaluation du niveau de confiance permettant de justifier l’élaboration de la démarche cartographique utilisée pour la rivière Mitis. \nLes résultats cartographiques sont le fruit d’une réflexion portant sur la compatibilité avec le cadre normatif de la politique de protection des rives du littoral et des plaines inondables de manière à anticiper leur utilisation locale par les acteurs de la MRC de La Mitis pour des fins de gestion et d’aménagement du territoire. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en français : hydrogéomorphologie, plaine alluviale, zone inondable, rivière Mitis, cartographie, aléa, inondation, fréquence de crue, historique, gestion de l’aménagement.
