Abstract
Thirty-three patients with recurrent affective disorder who stopped taking prophylactic lithium were followed up in 2 clinics and relapses recorded in open observation. After the discontinuation of lithium, the spontaneous course of the disease reappeared, with the relapse pattern resembling the one prior to the prophylaxis, or slightly deteriorated.
