Un million et demi d’enfants et d’adolescents juifs ont été assassinés dans les camps de la mort et parmi eux 11 000 enfants de France dont 2 000 environ avaient moins de 6 ans. Ce fut le résultat de l’action conjuguée des nazis (conférence de Wannsee du 20 janvier 1942) et du gouvernement de Vichy.
