Abstract
Grammatical and stylistic peculiarities of two epochs separated more than a century of temporal distance, will be identified through the analysis, which is based on a number of examples. This article compares the texts of modern central newspapers with the texts of periodicals, published in St. Petersburg in pre-revolutionary historical period. Given text facts demonstrate may create some difficulties for the direct reading of the text by the layman. The article studies two newspapers: "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" and "Izvestiya" as most of the official state printed edition. Two numbers of the official publication of the St. Petersburg "Government Bulletin" of the period of the last quarter of the nineteenth century were chosen for analysis.
