Le parcours curial du cardinal Rafael Merry del Val fut l’un des plus fulgurants de l’histoire ecclesiastique : il fut camerier secret surnumeraire a 21 ans, camerier secret participant a 26 ans, delegue apostolique au Canada a 31 ans, president de l’Academie des Nobles Ecclesiastiques et archeveque a 34 ans, secretaire d’Etat et cardinal a 38 ans, archipretre de la basilique Saint-Pierre et prefet de la Fabrique de Saint-Pierre a 48 ans, secretaire du Saint-Office a 49 ans. Dans cet article, Philippe Roy-Lysencourt presente et explique ce parcours a travers un plan chronologique qui en suit les grandes etapes. Il y est donc d’abord question de son parcours curial durant la periode qui va de son arrivee a Rome jusqu’a sa nomination comme secretaire d’Etat, de ses annees comme principal collaborateur de Pie X, et enfin, de celles durant lesquelles il fut secretaire du Saint-Office.
