La mort, inéluctable malgré tous nos efforts pour la nier ou l’ « apprivoiser », pose de façon radicale la question du sens de la vie. Selon que l’on perçoit la vie comme un don, comme un projet ou comme une responsabilité individuelle et collective, on n’envisagera pas de la même façon les enjeux éthiques liés aux derniers moments de la vie et à la mort elle-même. Une anthropologie commune a longtemps été perçue comme le préalable obligé des morales et de leurs normes, et de l’éthique même. La reconnaissance de la pluralité des visions du monde accule au provisoire et au relatif, mais non pas à l’arbitraire. Prend forme, par et dans la discussion, une « éthique de la responsabilité ».
