Au Canada français hors Québec, entre le début des études élémentaires et la fin du secondaire, une proportion importante d’élèves quittent les écoles de langue française pour s’inscrire dans les écoles de langue anglaise. L’objectif de cette recherche est d’expliquer le phénomène. Une enquête a été menée auprès d’élèves, de leurs amis, de leurs parents et de leurs enseignants. Elle a permis d’établir des variations selon les régions, de mettre en évidence l’incidence de la manière dont les élèves se perçoivent linguistiquement puis de repérer une idéologie linguistique et la manière dont elle circule.
