Abstract
El cancer de mama es la primera causa de muerte por cancer en los paises industrializados y en los ultimos anos la incidencia se ha incrementado en torno a 1-2% anual y sigue siendo mas frecuente en Estados Unidos y Canada. En el mundo aproximadamente 1 millon de personas lo padecen, representando un problema sanitario y social de primera magnitud en todo el mundo y en especial en los paises desarrollados; de manera general podemos decir que el cancer de mama supone alrededor del 20-30 % de los tumores. Se estima que aproximadamente una de cada 11 mujeres en el mundo occidental padecera cancer de mama a lo largo de su vida. En Mexico la incidencia de cancer de mama solo se ve superada por la del cancer cervicouterino.
