In this interview, Pierrette Bouchard reports on the result of a press study of media treatment of the different levels of success at school for boys and girls in six Western countries. Then she analyses how the conclusions were received in masculinist circles. Education was a priority field for feminist action for gender equality in Quebec, and also a place where girls and their mothers could resist the imposition of identities. Now there is a fight for influence by masculinist networks in order to maintain the status quo or even move backwards in gender relations. The anti-feminists are turning around feminist discourse on sex discriminations in a way that leads us to conclude there is concerted movement to roll back the rights women have won.
