Abstract
This controversial genre that presents the trials and tribulations of street life, features themes and storylines with violence, sex, crime, and drugs. Traditionally a genre dominated by African American authors, urban fiction is beginning to take on a multicultural influence in Canada with protagonists and characters of a multitude of races and ethnicities. The article discusses the importance of urban fiction to our libraries and in the lives of teens.
