Depuis près de trois décennies, l’histoire du cinéma est à la mode et a entamé une métamorphose critique, si bien qu’il est maintenant coutumier de parler de la « nouvelle histoire » du cinéma. La caractéristique première de cette nouveauté réside dans sa valeur réflexive, dans la nécessité de ne pas mettre de côté la théorie dans la pratique de l’histoire.
