Cet article présente le collectif français actuel de la recherche sur le jeu vidéo, en SHS, en questionnant son émergence dans le contexte des Game Studies. Il montre comment la formation de liens forts a favorisé celle-ci en France dans un contexte institutionnel peu favorable. Il s’appuie sur une série d’entretiens, sur un travail socio-historique à partir d’archives en ligne et privées, ainsi que sur un corpus de textes de référence sur le sujet. Ce travail fait ressortir trois éléments dans son déroulé. Il traite des enjeux de légitimation auxquels est soumis l’objet de recherche vidéoludique et qui impacte le développement des recherches. Il présente et analyse la formation d’un collectif de chercheur·e·s depuis vingt ans en portant attention à la nature des liens sociaux. Il interroge enfin la présence ou l’absence de liens entre les collectifs de recherche vidéoludique français et celui des Game Studies, en questionnant une éventuelle autonomie de la recherche française.
