Abstract
Dans ce court essai, l’auteur avance que le sacré ne peut être confondu avec le religieux et que la religion n’est qu’une des manifestations possibles du sacré. Elle en serait en fait une abstraction (c’est-à-dire une structuration, voire une pétrification), alors que le sacré, lui, est process, c’est-à-dire énergie et fluide, à l’image de l’éruption volcanique. Que vienne à ne plus fonctionner l’une ou l’autre des voies par lesquelles le sacré se manifestait jusque-là, il en empruntera d’autres. Trois de ces « nouvelles voies » sont ici suggérées, autour de ces réalités contemporaines que sont le sida, la drogue et l’écologie. Elles offrent l’intérêt de présenter d’importants « attributs du sacré » : la peur (pour toutes trois), et l’ineffable, le fusionnel et le holistique.
