Abstract
Canadian texts of an ecoGothic nature make discoveries about cultural fears, anxieties and ancestral/colonial hauntings that expose Canada, and its culturally defined relations with 'wilderness' as a site of Gothic anxiety, as an uncanny space. EcoGothic explores how revisioning a monstrous 'other' that may have once been identified as wilderness, nature and/or the dislocation of the geopsychic self in biotic community, has become as necessary as it is possible. Kaki's recognition and development of revisioned spiritual rituals allows the reader access to revised ways of knowing and becoming that avoid perpetuated and prescribed violence against the human body and animals. The human body as a site of colonial trauma, denigration, sexism and racism likewise presents itself as the 'unsettled' territory in ecoGothic Canadian novels.
