Abstract
Cet article a pour objet l’un des espaces les plus mythiques de la littérature moderne : celui de la chambre capitonnée de liège et bordée d’épais rideaux bloquant toute forme de lumière où Marcel Proust s’est retiré du monde pendant près de dix ans pour écrire À la recherche du temps perdu. Or, qui dit lieu mythique dit aussi lieu usé, si bien que l’on ne compte plus les variantes littéraires qui, d’une manière ou d’une autre, mettent en scène l’espace de la chambre proustienne. Faisant un pas de côté, les auteurs de ce texte s’intéresseront ici à deux adaptations cinématographiques de la chambre proustienne, Céleste (1980) et Le Temps retrouvé (1999), où deux réalisateurs, Percy Adlon et Raoul Ruiz, ont tenté de relever le défi de donner à voir un lieu par nature irreprésentable, car, comme tout mythe, essentiel-lement hétérogène.
