Contudo, ao ler mais de perto a interpretação que delapropõe Foucault, vemos duas faces opostas do pensamento sadianoemergir. A primeira anuncia a morte do sujeito e se encontramobilizada em favor de apostas trabalhadas pela questãoestruturalista. A segunda evoca antes o parricídio de Sade a favor deuma sexualidade liberada dos constrangimentos do desejo e do gozoa qualquer preço. Ler Sade por meio de Foucault é assim se interrogarsobre as nossas práticas sexuais a fim de promover uma ars eroticadesembaraçada de uma sciencia sexualis da qual ele se faz em parteo herdeiro. Desde então, a propósito do sexo, é a reflexão de Foucaultque aparece realmente libertadora e a de Sade castradora.
