Nemaska's core, 100% owned asset -- the Whabouchi lithium project in Quebec -- contains 27.3m tonnes proven and probable reserves at an average grade of 1.46% Li[subscript]2 O, held within the spodumene-bearing pegmatite intrusive dyke swarm. The project's claims cover 17.16 km[superscript]2. Nemaska is a Cree word meaning abundance of fish, revealing the native Canadian heritage of the project's location in Quebec. Accordingly, Nemaska has signed an impact benefit agreement (IBA) with the local First Nation and the Cree Nation Government, and thus does not anticipate any significant local objection to the project. Nemaska notes that Tesla currently uses lithium hydroxide in its battery packs, and estimates that at production levels of 500,000 vehicles per annum, around 28,000 tpa extra lithium hydroxide capacity will be needed by the Tesla plant.
