Abstract
Although we Victorian planners often concentrate our attention on big cities like Melbourne, Toronto, Copenhagen and the like, I'm certain there is a lot to be gained from looking to the challenges and initiatives of many lesser known cities. I had the enormous luck to live for many years in one of Japan's best kept secrets; Shizuoka City. Home to the better half of Mt Fuji and rolling hills covered in green tea fields, it is uniquely beautiful.
