In this paper, a miniaturized quarter-wavelength rectangular patch antenna with coaxial feed is proposed. The resonance frequency of the proposed antenna is simulated and measured so that the relationship between its mechanical deformation and resonance frequency can be determined. Also, additional tensile tests are employed to further clarify the relationship by increasing strain increments per loading step. The simulated and measured results indicate that there is a good linear relationship between the resonance frequency shift and applied mechanical deformation, which has been used for monitoring the mechanical deformation of a structure.
