Dans Le Lys et le Flamboyant (1997), le romancier congolais Henri Lopes nous livre une écriture fondée sur l’erreur à divers niveaux. Dès le début, le narrateur métis affiche son intention de nous raconter la vie d’une grande dame de la chanson congolaise, prenant appui sur des événements historiques. Mais le texte ne cesse d’osciller entre biographie et autobiographie, entre réalité et fiction. Cette confusion entre documentaire et invention génère un éventail d’incertitudes qui guident le fil du récit. Elle s’accompagne d’une subversion de la langue française académique. Ses « incorrections », issues du contexte culturel et idéologique congolais, débouchent sur une recréation des signifiés, des connotations et du rythme du français, mise en abyme par cette musique hybride moderne : la rumba congolaise, évocatrice d’un espace-temps révolu.
