Abstract
La sociologie du travail s’est constituée en France, à la Libération, pour informer et conseiller l’action d’un État interventionniste, dont l’objectif premier était d’organiser l’industrialisation du pays sur une échelle et par des moyens nouveaux. Les principaux changements de la structure et du mode de reproduction de la population active se sont réalisés sans bouleverser le marché du travail, ni opposer les anciens salariés aux nouveaux, grâce à des codifications d’emplois unifiantes et contraignantes. La mission des sociologues était alors d’éprouver l’adéquation des tâches aux situations concrètes, de mesurer leurs effets, de préparer leur évolution, et donc de penser les mouvements de la qualification et des relations professionnelles. Aujourd’hui, où l’État français ne se propose plus d’accélérer l’industrialisation du pays, où il articule avec les entreprises sa fonction d’éducateur, où la classe des salariés se reproduit surtout à partir d’elle-même, reste-t-il un objet propre au sociologue ?
