Abstract
Jean-Pierre Pichette explore la littérature orale franco-ontarienne dans cet article consacré au répertoire des chansons de Donat Paradis, un nonagénaire à la mémoire alerte qu’il a eu le privilège de rencontrer et d’interroger de façon brève mais intensive en 1982. Il expose d’abord les circonstances du collectage de ces oeuvres lyriques, montre aussi le rôle du réseau familial dans l’apprentissage et la transmission des chansons, et fait une analyse sommaire des types poétiques et des thèmes récurrents. Après quoi, il en dégage quelques éléments caractéristiques et en fait voir l’originalité ; franco-ontarien et blézardois par la géographie, familial et vicinal par l’inspiration, paysan par le milieu social, ce répertoire paraît tout à fait représentatif de la tradition canadienne-française. Sa recherche s’inscrit dans les travaux préparatoires à l’édition intégrale du chansonnier Paradis.
